David Bowie’s daughter Lexi Jones “not a copy” of late father: “I’m creating my own rhythm.”

The 24-year-old artist, whose mother is Bowie’s widow Iman, quietly shared the 12-track project earlier this month. It incorporates elements of pop, electronic, and indie rock, with Jones’—born’ Alexandria Zahra Jones—vocals at the forefront.

The LP’s title, ‘Xandri,’ comes from the Greek word meaning “defender of mankind.” Tracks include ‘Through All The Time,’ ‘Moving On,’ ‘Standing Alone,’ and ‘Glass.’

Jones recently shared a poem on her official Instagram account called ‘David Bowie’s Daughter.’ “That gets your attention, eh?” she wrote.

It reads, “I’m the daughter of a legend, but I’m more than just his name. They see the blood, they hear the sound, yet fail to see me and don’t feel the same.

“They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light. But I’m not here to chase what’s already been done. By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.”

The poem continues: “Some like what I have made; others laugh at how I move. Yet they want me to carry on a legacy, but that’s never been my truth.”

It goes on to state that Jones is “not a copy, not a shadow” of Bowie, adding, “I’m just a girl that’s as confused as you.” She writes, “Never thought I was good at much. Never thought it was worth it to pursue.”

Jones went on, “I’m not trying to be that someone that all love and admire. So I’m creating my own rhythm, letting my true self show.

“But nobody knows how it may feel to be constantly despairing, then finally just saying ‘fuck it,’ and then being all around compared.”

The poem concludes, “But I’ll keep moving, keep doing me, even when the world is hard to please. I’m not trying to fill his shoes; I’m just trying to find my own peace.” Read it in full in the post above.

Last month, Jones shared a photograph of herself and Bowie from when she was a child. “Papa,” she captioned the upload (see above).

In 2023, she posted a sweet home video to mark the seventh anniversary of Bowie’s death, showing her and the late icon playing keyboard together. In 2018, both Jones and her mother honored Bowie’s passing by sharing tattoos in his memory.

Bowie passed away on January 10, 2016, after privately living with cancer for 18 months. The artist had released his 26th and final studio album, ‘Blackstar,’ on his 69th birthday just two days prior (January 8).

His work is due to feature in London’s brand-new ‘Live Odyssey’ immersive experience.

In other news, a special edition of Bowie’s ‘Ready, Set, Go!’ live album has been released for Record Store Day 2025. Elsewhere, his old childhood home in Bromley has been put on the market.
