Donald Trump Supporter Disappointed After $640 Limited-Edition Watch Misspells ‘Trump’ as ‘Rump’

A Rhode Island man who bought a Donald Trump-themed watch for his wife says he was left disappointed after noticing a glaring typo on the product.

Tim Petit purchased a “limited edition” watch from GetTrumpWatches.com for $640, intending it as a special gift for his wife, Melanie. However, when the watch arrived, the word “Trump” on the face was missing the crucial “T,” instead reading “Rump” on the pink timepiece.

“I’m very disappointed. I wanted to do a special thing for her,” Petit told local NBC affiliate WJAR. “And we expected that it would have the integrity of the president of the United States and good follow-through.”

The watch Petit bought was the pink “Inauguration First Lady” model, which, according to the website, has since sold out along with most other women’s watches.

Melanie Petit said the error upset her deeply. “How could they process this and go through something without checking their work?” she told the station, noting that she was moved to tears by the mistake.

GetTrumpWatches.com includes a disclaimer on its site clarifying that their watches are not “designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals.” Despite this, the company uses Trump’s likeness in its video and radio advertisements, as reported by The Independent.

It was one such advertisement that initially caught Tim Petit’s attention and convinced him to make the purchase. “With the president’s voice hawking the watches, I was curious, so I went on to the website,” he said. “I just thought it was really nice. It was beautiful. And I knew it would be something that she’d like.”

In the ad, Trump himself highlights the quality of the watches. “We’re doing quite a number with watches,” the former president, now 78, states. “And the quality, to me, is very important,” according to The Independent.

After the Petits’ initial complaint to GetTrumpWatches.com went unanswered, they turned to WJAR for help. Once the news outlet intervened, the company responded with an apology and offered the couple an $800 coupon.

However, the website currently only has one women’s watch in stock, the “First Lady Royal Amethyst,” priced at $899.

This incident has left the Petits feeling frustrated, turning a thoughtful gift into a public disappointment.
