Last Chance for Inter? Roma Threatens, Napoli Ready to Strike in Title Chase

by TheSarkariForm

The Scudetto race is reaching fever pitch and Inter Milan are stumbling at the worst possible time.

After a long, grueling campaign packed with domestic and European commitments, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter are looking more drained by the week. Their title tilt now hangs in the balance as they prepare to host a resurgent AS Roma side on Sunday — a clash that could define the fate of the championship.

With five rounds to go, Inter sit level on 71 points with Napoli, but momentum has clearly shifted. The Nerazzurri have gone three matches without a win across all competitions and are coming off a demoralizing Coppa Italia semi-final exit at the hands of bitter rivals AC Milan. A 3-0 second-leg hammering at San Siro saw them crash out 4-1 on aggregate — and left players and fans alike visibly rattled.

“We’ve had a more packed schedule than others, but again, it’s not an excuse,” said Inzaghi, trying to deflect the mounting pressure after Wednesday’s loss. But excuses might start to run thin if Sunday doesn’t go their way.

Roma, meanwhile, are flying. The Giallorossi haven’t tasted defeat in Serie A in 17 games — the longest unbeaten streak in the league — and come into the clash full of belief and momentum. Their late-season form has reignited hopes of a top-four finish and added further intrigue to an already electric fixture.

Injuries have only compounded Inter’s woes. Key players Denzel Dumfries, Piotr Zielinski, and Marcus Thuram are all sidelined, and their absence has been keenly felt. Inter’s once rock-solid grip on the title race is loosening — and Roma are poised to pounce.

Napoli’s Golden Run-In

While Inter wobble, Napoli are hitting their stride at exactly the right time.

Unburdened by European distractions, the Neapolitans are fully locked in on Serie A — and their fixture list could hardly be more favorable. Sunday’s home match against 10th-placed Torino is arguably their last major hurdle. After that, it’s a dream sequence of strugglers: Lecce (17th), Genoa (13th), Parma (15th), and Cagliari (16th) to close the season.

Central to Napoli’s charge has been Scott McTominay. The former Manchester United man has reinvented himself in southern Italy, bagging nine goals and two assists this season — a towering presence in midfield when it matters most.

Napoli also hope to welcome back centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno, who’s missed the last three league matches but is reportedly nearing full fitness for the critical final stretch.

Juve Scrapping for Fourth

While the title race narrows, the battle for Champions League spots is turning into a barroom brawl.

Juventus, currently fifth with 59 points, are still licking their wounds after a 1-0 defeat to Parma — the first under new boss Igor Tudor. Fortunately for the Bianconeri, they now face rock-bottom Monza, who are virtually doomed with a 11-point gap from safety and just 15 points left on the table.

The race for fourth is a five-way dogfight. Bologna hold the last Champions League spot with 60 points, while Lazio, Roma, and Fiorentina all lurk just a few points back. Third-placed Atalanta, five points clear of Juve, are close to securing their place but aren’t over the line yet.

Their upcoming clash with Lecce was postponed after the tragic death of Lecce’s physiotherapist. The match will now be rescheduled for Sunday or Monday, giving both clubs time to regroup.

Title drama. Top-four chaos. Injuries, fatigue, and form all colliding. With just five games left, Serie A is delivering a finale for the ages.
