The NEET-UG 2025 registrations have witnessed a noticeable decline compared to the previous year. With nearly 23 lakh candidates registered this year, the number has dropped by approximately one lakh compared to 24.06 lakh in 2024.

Decrease in Registrations for NEET-UG 2025

As the registration deadline approached, the total number of applicants stood at roughly 23.40 lakh, according to Pankaj Khandelwal, a form-filling expert from Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. However, many candidates failed to complete the process due to incomplete forms or missing documents. Consequently, the final confirmed registrations are estimated to be 23 lakh.

Expected Number of Candidates

Experts predict that the actual number of candidates appearing in the exam will be 60,000 to 70,000 fewer than the registered figure. Therefore, the expected attendance is anticipated to be between 22 lakh and 22.5 lakh students.

Competition for MBBS Seats

This year, with 1.20 lakh MBBS seats available, the competition has reduced slightly. On average, there will be 19 candidates competing for each MBBS seat, compared to 20.3 candidates per seat last year.

Factors Behind the Drop

According to private counsellor Sonu Kumar, the registration process accelerated rapidly in early March, with 4-5 lakh candidates registering within the first five days. Despite this increase, overall numbers remain lower than anticipated.

Additionally, students previously admitted to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur, and Marwar Medical University, Jodhpur, are facing uncertainty after these institutions withdrew their admissions decisions. This may further reduce the number of students appearing for the NEET-UG 2025 exam.

Conclusion

With NEET-UG 2025 showing a slight drop in registrations, competition for MBBS seats appears to be less intense than in previous years. Candidates are advised to stay updated with official announcements for the latest information.
