New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has expressed confidence ahead of the highly anticipated Champions Trophy 2025 Final against India. While Santner acknowledges the pressure of the big stage, he emphasized that his team will maintain their usual game approach.
Santner’s Strategy for the Final
Speaking to reporters on the eve of the final in Dubai, Santner stated, “It’s easy to say it’s just another game, it’s obviously not, but I think the way you approach it has to be the same.” He emphasized that his team will stick to their game plan, building on the positive momentum they have developed throughout the tournament.
“We’ve done a lot of good stuff this tournament,” Santner continued. “We’re just trying to progress, build on what we’ve been doing, and keep moving forward as a team.”
Familiar Conditions in Dubai
Having previously faced India in the Group A stage, Santner believes that familiarity with the conditions could offer New Zealand an advantage.
“The mix of experience and a few younger boys in this group has worked well,” Santner remarked. “We’ve been playing some good cricket, and hopefully, we can keep that going.”
Injury Update: Matt Henry’s Availability
The New Zealand skipper provided an update on the fitness of star pacer Matt Henry, the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, who sustained a shoulder injury during the semi-final against South Africa. Santner confirmed that Henry would train and undergo assessment before a final decision is made regarding his participation.
“Matt’s going to have a bowl, and we’ll make a call after that,” Santner said.

Facing India’s Strong Bowling Attack
Santner highlighted Varun Chakaravarthy as a key threat in India’s bowling attack, describing him as “a world-class bowler with a little bit of mystery.”
Chakaravarthy claimed five wickets against New Zealand during their group-stage match, proving pivotal in India’s convincing win. However, Santner is confident that his team has studied footage and adapted their strategy.
“We’ve looked at more footage,” Santner explained. “We know what his threats are now — that 115kph armball that got me was a big threat — but we’re ready for the challenge.”
Final Showdown Awaits
As the Champions Trophy 2025 Final approaches, both teams are prepared for a thrilling encounter. With New Zealand determined to claim victory and India seeking another major title, cricket fans can expect an intense battle at the Dubai International Stadium.
