A high school English teacher in Waterville, Maine, remains listed on her school’s staff directory after making social media posts calling for the assassination of former President Donald Trump and his supporters.
JoAnna St. Germain, who teaches at Waterville Senior High School, drew national attention late last month when she published a series of threatening Facebook messages. In the now-deleted posts, St. Germain called on the U.S. Secret Service and military to act violently against Trump and his allies, statements that triggered a law enforcement investigation, according to local reports.
Despite the controversy and public outcry, St. Germain’s name still appears on the official staff listing for the school. The Daily Wire reached out to Waterville Senior High School Principal Dr. Brian Laramee to confirm her employment status but has not received a response.
According to a report by The Maine Wire, a parent of a student at the school recorded a conversation with staff who allegedly confirmed that St. Germain had not been terminated and remains eligible to return to teaching. However, the report also noted that St. Germain has not been back on campus since making the posts. The Maine Wire stated it could not independently verify the recorded conversation, and The Daily Wire has also not been able to confirm it.
Before deactivating her Facebook account, St. Germain posted a lengthy explanation and apology for her earlier comments. She attributed her behavior to extreme sleep deprivation and past trauma, stating that she was not in a stable mental state when she made the posts.
“I had a mental breakdown due to severe insomnia and the stress of trying to cope with trauma inflicted on me by a domestic abuser and rapist,” she wrote. “But I have sought the help I needed and my brain is mine again.”
St. Germain said she is now under the care of a psychiatric team and emphasized that the violent remarks did not reflect her true character.
“Mostly what I needed was sleep,” she added. “I hope you have no idea the psychosis lack of sleep brings.”
In the same post, St. Germain expressed regret for the threats she made.
“I regret my words of violence towards the current administration,” she wrote. “That is not in my heart when my brain is well. I have never received so much as a speeding ticket, and I loathe guns and violence. I meet every individual with respect and an open mind when I am well.”
Despite the apology, St. Germain stood by her criticisms of Trump-era policies, stating that her concerns about authoritarianism and human rights abuses remain unchanged.

“I meant every word I said about the rise of fascism and the horror of trafficking humans to foreign prisons,” she wrote. “My heart breaks every day for the vulnerable populations being targeted and irreparably harmed.”
In the original posts flagged by The Daily Wire, St. Germain called on the Secret Service to “take out every single person who supports Trump’s illegal, immoral, unconstitutional acts.” She went as far as to say, “If I had the skill set required, I would take them out myself.”

She directly addressed the Secret Service and military, saying, “You are the ones with power. Coordinate… Secret Service, you are Americans. My beloved military, you are Americans. We, the people, are counting on you.”
No charges have been publicly announced, and school officials have not provided an update on any disciplinary actions related to St. Germain’s status.
As the situation develops, questions remain about whether St. Germain will return to the classroom, and what disciplinary steps, if any, will be taken in response to her online threats.
