In a shocking security breach, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem became the victim of a thief while dining at a restaurant in downtown Washington, DC, Sunday evening. The theft, which Noem confirmed on Monday, took place at the Capital Burger, a popular spot in the city.
During a casual dinner with her family, which included her children and grandchildren, Noem’s bag was stolen by a man wearing a medical mask. Security footage reviewed by the Secret Service shows the thief sneaking off with Noem’s belongings, which included not only her personal items but also sensitive government materials.
Among the stolen items were Noem’s driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, passport, DHS access badge, blank checks, a makeup bag, and — most alarmingly — approximately $3,000 in cash. Noem was reportedly using the funds to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts.
