Police Scotland investigate alleged ‘bottle attack’ on Hamilton Accies director

by TheSarkariForm

Saturday was supposed to be just another crucial championship clash for Hamilton Accies. Instead, it turned into a day of drama, frustration, and police intervention — with reports confirming that director John Brown was allegedly struck by a bottle during a tense match against Queen’s Park.

Emotions were already running high before a ball was even kicked. The club had just been slapped with a devastating 15-point deduction and a £9,000 fine, plunging them to the brink of relegation. Fans, understandably furious, turned their anger toward the directors’ box, where club owner Seref Zengin, chairman Jock Brown, ex-MP George Robertson, and John Brown were all present.

Things spiraled out of control at halftime. According to Lanarkshire Live Sport, a club director and head steward were allegedly attacked when an individual somehow gained access to the boardroom — a breach that the club has since confirmed.

Amid the chaos, police were seen escorting key board members from the stands. John Brown was later spotted with a plaster on his nose, underscoring the seriousness of the situation. One image even shows CEO Seref Zengin being led away by police, adding a surreal visual to an already explosive day.

Police Scotland released a statement confirming they are now investigating an assault on two men — aged 70 and 52 — inside the stadium on Cadzow Drive. “Inquiries are ongoing,” a spokesperson said, noting that CCTV footage will be reviewed as part of the investigation.

Saturday’s goalless draw against Queen’s Park did little to help the club’s survival hopes. The 0-0 result leaves Hamilton unofficially relegated — unless they can overturn the 15-point deduction via an appeal to the Scottish Football Association. The appeal is expected to be received on Monday, at which point the league table will temporarily revert to its original standings pending the final decision.

Time, however, is not on Accies’ side. With only two games left in the season, they sit seven points behind Airdrieonians. Their final fixtures? A home game against title-chasing Livingston and a daunting away trip to league leaders Falkirk on May 2.

It’s a dire situation on and off the pitch — and one that’s left supporters, players, and staff reeling. What happens next could define the future of Hamilton Accies for years to come.
